Gerald Shechter

Gerald Shechter currently serves as Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Kansas City, Missouri in the City Manager’s Office of Environmental Quality. His responsibilities have included, among other assignments, development of and public education about the Kansas City, Missouri Climate Protection Plan and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program. Previously, Mr. Shechter worked for the Metropolitan Energy Center developing Project Living Proof (PLP) - the redevelopment of an historic house to be used as an educational tool for promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy. From 1985 to 2005, Mr. Shechter served as Executive Director of Westside Housing Organization, a non-profit community development corporation (CDC) responsible for redevelopment of the housing market in the Hispanic community focusing primarily on affordable, energy efficient housing. From 1973 to 1985, Mr. Shechter was employed by the City of Kansas City, Missouri during which time he wrote and implemented a number of housing programs including the residential energy conservation programs and was a co-founder of the Metropolitan Energy Center.

Mr. Shechter has been a member of numerous local committees and boards and statewide task forces and currently is a member of:

• Rosedale Development Association
• Historic Manheim Park Green Team
• Kansas City, MO Green Solutions Team – Resource Management Committee

Mr. Shechter holds a Master of Arts degree in Urban Economics from the New School for Social Research in New York City and is an alumnus of Year 10 of the leadership training program - Kansas City Tomorrow.
