This report by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) documents green power marketing activities and trends in the United States for the year 2008. Using data provided by utilities and independent renewable energy marketers, NREL starts off in the first section with information on aggregate green power sales data for all voluntary purchase markets across the United States. (i.e. where there are no renewable portfolio standards (RPS)). The next three sections provide data on 1) utility green pricing programs offered in regulated electricity markets; 2) green power marketing activity in competitive electricity markets, as voluntary purchasing of renewable energy credits (RECs); and 3) renewable energy sold as greenhouse gas offsets in the United States. This report rounds off with a discussion of key market trends and issues, conclusions and observations.
